The access of start-ups to research funding is to be improved. To this end, the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy (BMWi) has set up an AG Startup within the Energy Research Networks. It is intended to offer technology-oriented start-ups a forum to contribute their interests to the strategic further development and updating of the energy research programme. As part of the "Tech Festival - Startup Energy Transition" a panel discussion on the topic will take place on 16 April 2018 and a kick-off of the AG Startup at betahaus in Berlin the evening before.

As part of the "Tech Festival - Startup Energy Transition" of the German Energy Agency, a panel discussion on "The role of startups in energy research" will now take place on 16 April. The evening before there will be a kick-off of the AG Startup at betahaus in Berlin. This is about the question of which innovations in the energy research programme should be funded, whether and how research funding can serve as a financing component and which network experience start-ups can contribute and use for technology transfer.

For participants of the AG Startup kick-off, both events, including the Tech Festival program, are free of charge. Registration for the kick-off is still possible until 2 April. To register for the Tech Festival panel discussion, please visit the Tech Festival website.

The establishment of the Startup working group in the Energy Research Network and participation in dena's Tech Festival are intended to facilitate the participation of newly founded companies in research projects. Cooperation opportunities with research are to be expanded, the innovation potential of start-ups for the energy transition is to be exploited and obstacles to this are to be removed. For example, start-ups consider the previous credit assessment as a prerequisite for funding and the high effort involved in applying for research funding to be an obstacle to participating in energy research projects.
